In Islam, Shaytan (Satan) is destined to lose, with his ultimate fate being eternal punishment in Hellfire. The Quran makes it clear that while he can tempt humanity, his “cunning” is ultimately weak, and he has no power over the sincere servants of God. Shaytan’s rebellion and fate
- Arrogance and refusal to obey: Shaytan, or Iblis, was cast out of Paradise after he proudly refused to prostrate before Adam, arguing that he, having been created from fire, was superior to a human made of clay. This act of defiance made him a disbeliever.
- Granted respite: After being expelled, Iblis requested and was granted a reprieve by God until the Day of Resurrection, during which he vowed to mislead as many human beings as possible.
- Final destination in Hell: Despite his temporary influence, Shaytan’s ultimate destination is Hell, along with all the humans and jinn who follow him. He will not be forgiven for his original sin.
Victory is for the believers
- Insignificant against God’s will: Islamic teachings assert that Shaytan’s schemes are ultimately powerless against the will of God. God’s plan is to test humanity, and believers can use their free will to follow the righteous path and resist temptation.
- Shaytan’s betrayal of his followers: On the Day of Judgment, Shaytan will disown his followers. He will state that he had no real authority over them and only extended an invitation, and they chose to accept it. He will tell them to blame only themselves, not him, for their fate in Hell.
- Power over sincere servants: The Quran makes it clear that Shaytan has no power over the sincere servants of God who put their trust in Him. The battle against temptation is a human test, and those who remain steadfast will be victorious.
The end of Shaytan
- Death and Resurrection: Shaytan, like all other creatures, will perish at one point on the Day of Judgment, when the trumpet is blown. This is before the final resurrection of all beings.
- Punishment in Hell: After his death and resurrection, Shaytan’s final and eternal punishment will be in Hellfire, as promised by God.
